on TV One’s Unsung
He may not had the pop appeal of legendary status of soul artists such as Aretha Franklin or Stevie Wonder, but Bobby Womack stands as one of the genre’s greatest singer-songwriters.
And on January 9th, TVOne’s hit TV show Unsungpremiered their episode on the soul legend. This happens to make him the fifth Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee (after Florence Ballard of the Supremes, Bootsy Collins and George Clinton of Parliament-Funkadelic, and the O’Jays) to be featured on this show. The episode shines a light on many facts on Womack, which had otherwise been either unknown or simply overlooked. Those factors include some of his songs becoming hits for other artists including George Benson and the Rolling Stones, his soulful cover of the Mamas & the Papas classic “California Dreamin’”, and has played guitar for other artists including Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin.
